Comparison of LPWAN Like SIGFOX, LoRaWAN, Weightless P and NB-IoT/LTE-Cat-NB1

Low-power WAN technologies are designed for IoT / M2M networking environments. With decreased power requirements, longer range and lower cost than a classic cellular network. LPWANs are thought to enable a much wider range of applications, which have been constrained by budgets and power issues. The first launched LPWAN offered very low data transfer. The power consumption of connected devices was low as well. Furthermore, LPWANs can operate at a lower cost, with greater power efficiency. The new networks can also support more IoT devices over a larger coverage area than classical cellular technologies (GSM, UMTS or LTE). However, since this year there is NB-IoT (LTE-Cat-NB1) and Weightless P at pole position and try to win against SIGFOX and LoRaWAN. The presentation will answer the question about the differences the wireless protocols and which technology is the best for your IoT application.
Speaker 1     Harald Naumann, Tekmodul

Born Kirchheim, North Hessen, degree as technician with focus on information electronics in Offenbach. Harald has been member of numerous teams developing wireless products – years later this is now called Wireless IoT. For more than 25 years he has been active in the area of radio technics and he has published his first IoT / M2M Cookbook in 2014. Today he works as Sales Director at Tekmodul Munich.
